On 1 July 2019, the University and College Union (UCU) published an update from their General Secretary-elect, Dr Jo Grady, on UCU's demands for employers. This followed confirmation on 28 June 2019 of UCU's intention to commence a ballot for industrial action over pensions and pay on 9 September 2019.
Universities UK (UUK) has now published a set of points that employers may wish to use as part of any responses to UCU, or updates for their staff.
The document makes clear that both UUK and individual scheme employers have pushed the USS Trustee to incorporate the JEP's recommendations, and explains why employers cannot agree to 'pay the full cost of any contributions increases above the rate of 26%'.
